So you just graduated? And now you need to apply to shipping companies for your 1 year shipboard training. But what documents do you need? What should you process first? How do I process them? Below is the step by step guide on which document should you process first.

  1. TOR and CAV
Process this two right after you graduated. Usually, your school processes this upon request, this is what shipping companies will ask you to show first when you apply and also this is a requirement for Seafarer Registration Certificate(SRC).
  2. NBI Clearance (Visa Seaman) Click here to set an appointment
Bring your birth certificate and 1 valid ID
  3. Passport
Right after you get your NBI Clearance apply for a passport.

  4. Training Certificates
Your passport, TOR and CAV should be on the process at this time, It's the best time to undergo trainings because there is nothing else you can process at the moment. See the most required trainings by shipping companies below:
    -Basic Training (BT)
-Seafarers with Designated Security Duties and Securities Awareness Training (SDSDAT)
    -Deck Watchkeeping/Engine Watchkeeping (DWK/EWK)
    -Consolidated MARPOL Annex 1-6

  5. Seaman's Book
When you get your BT, TOR or Certified True Copy of Evaluation of grade from your school registrar, NBI clearance, you can apply for Seaman's Book
  6. COP/NAC
You need to COP/NAC your BT and SDSD
  7. Seafarer's Registration Certificate (SRC) (Wait for your Seaman's Book before applying for SRC)
Some companies won't even entertain you without this documents, this list is a must before going job hunting. There will be more required documents as your rank changes, process them early as possible to avoid schedule conflicts. May the luck be with your side, good luck job hunting!
