Daily Journal of Bridge/Engine Watchkeeping Duties

Daily Journal of Bridge/Engine Watchkeeping Duties

Daily Journal of Bridge Watchkeeping Duties(DJBWD) and Daily Journal of Engine Watchkeeping Duties(DJEWD) were the two requirements MARINA added upon taking the OIC licensure exam. Some maritime schools also included Daily Journal as a requirement for your Bachelors Degree. It took effect last September 5, 2014.

Take a look below how DJBWD and DJEWD look like.

NOTE: Don't use these forms, they are for illustration purposes only. As you may see at the lowest right part of the image, there is a printed number. You need pages 1-180, not pages 5-6 only. You may download the ready to print PDF format page 1-180 of DJBWD and DJEWD at Marinong Kadete Facebook group.

Now I'm going to discuss how you are going to fill this up. What are the instructions to be followed and what should you keep in mind upon filling up your daily journal.

Printing

You should print the Daily Journal only on size A5 or bigger. For those who doesn't know, A4 is bigger than A5 so that will do. You could find A4 size bond papers anywhere in the country.

Also, there should be a printed number below the sheets to identify the pages 1-180. You have nothing to worry about if you downloaded the ready to print PDF format, you just have to print it on an A5 or bigger paper.

Compiling

The Daily Journal should be in a string-bound composition notebook. Just have it bookbind and you're good to go. See an example below.

Note: It doesn't have to be exactly like the image above. It's just an example.

Filling up

All entries in the Daily Journal must be handwritten. The language must be English as well. Don't forget to have it signed by your officer with their complete name, Certificate of Competency details and country of issuance. After filling it up.

You must only fill up the DailyJournal in 4 hours of your duty.

Submitting

Before you apply for the licensure examination and submit it, you must attach the ship's crew list as a proof of having a qualified Supervising Officer. Every time your Supervising Officer changes, you shall attach a new crew list.

You may also submit a certification of watchkeeping duties from your Manning Agency instead of the Daily Journal if you missed doing it. Please refer to the STCW Advisory 2015-08 for more details.

    1. Palagay ko hindi pwede ang short and long bond eh. Iba kasi ang size nun.

Pwede nga siguro ang A4. A5 or bigger daw sabi ng circular.

Pansin ko kasi na yung A4 is the standard paper size used in all govt. offices here in the Philippines.

In my exp. walang nagbebenta ng A5 sa bookstores. You need to buy it online.

    2. pwede narin yung short kasi ang sabi naman ng circular bigger than A5. Which means na yung a4, long at short ay bigger than a5. There is no specific size naman naka lagay if ever bigger than A5 gagamitin mo.

Sir, ano yung A5 paper? Mas maliit kesa short bond? Di ba short bond = A4 size?

Kelangan bang tayo ang gagawa ng composition notebook for daily journal? Or baka may nabibili nang notebook for daily journal?

    Thanks.

    1. That's a situation I'm uncertain of. Anyway as per MARINA FAQ,

"The required number of days is not necessarily in consecutive order. Accumulated days are acceptable."

I'm not sure if this applies at different contracts as well. Kindly check
Daily Journal Frequently Asked Questions for more info.
